Justin Rose shot a 10 under par 62 to take the lead at the Farmers Insurance Open while Brooks Koepka returned to the PGA Tour with a 73. The 45 year old Englishman made 10 birdies to hold a one shot advantage over American Justin Lower at Torrey Pines with both playing on the North Course. Rose who missed the cut at last week’s American Express tournament said I feel like I managed my game really well today. I read the greens phenomenally and putted really well as you could see. Lower ranked 173rd in the world lost his full PGA Tour card last year and only entered this week’s event because of a withdrawal.
The 36 year old who made two eagles said his mind was not really here because his wife is 34 weeks pregnant with twins. He added I am just trying to get home on Monday to help out as much as I can. Five time major winner Koepka played on the South Course and did not make a birdie until his final hole but was lifted by the reception from the fans.
The American said the fans were awesome. It was very cool to hear welcome back on almost every hole which was great. I loved it and I am excited for the next few days. Koepka returned after leaving the Saudi LIV Golf series following a release from his contract at the end of 2025.
The PGA Tour introduced a Returning Members Programme to allow the former world number one to rejoin the tour. Koepka added I think I have fallen back in love with the game. Watching my son play and wanting him to see me play well makes me appreciate how much this game has given me. It is fun and cool to be out here.
